nol card basics

Dubai Metro uses nol cards and red tickets. Silver is the common stored-value card, Gold uses the Gold cabin at a higher fare, Blue is a personal card with concession options, and Red is a paper ticket for visitors or occasional trips.

  • Tap in and tap out at every station gate.
  • Fares are based on Dubai's public transport zones.
  • Transfers between Metro, Tram and buses can count as one journey when made within the allowed transfer window.
  • Keep enough balance before starting a trip, especially for long multi-zone journeys.

Operating hours

Standard RTA timetable guidance lists Dubai Metro from 05:00 to midnight Monday to Thursday, 05:00 to 01:00 the next day on Friday, and Sunday service starting later. First and last train times vary by station and direction.

  • Check live timings in the RTA app before late-night or holiday trips.
  • Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 stations are on the Red Line.
  • Women and children cabins and Gold cabins are marked at platforms and inside trains.

Blue Line project

The Dubai Metro Blue Line is a future expansion approved by Dubai, planned as a 30 km route with 14 stations. RTA material identifies interchange points with Creek on the Green Line and Centrepoint on the Red Line, with opening targeted for 2029.

  • It is not part of current daily passenger service yet.
  • Expected to serve growth areas including Dubai Creek Harbour, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City.

Rail network connections

The RTA rail map also shows Dubai Tram, Palm Monorail, ferry route and bus-link corridors. These are useful for onward trips from Metro areas such as DMCC, Sobha Realty, Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah.

  • Dubai Tram stops include JBR 1, JBR 2, JLT, Dubai Marina Mall, Dubai Marina, Marina Towers, Mina Seyahi, Media City, Palm Jumeirah, Knowledge Village and Al Sufouh.
  • Palm Monorail stations shown include Palm Gateway, Al Ittihad Park, Nakheel Mall and Atlantis Aquaventure.
Data note: Station names, nol fare tiers, transfer rules, network description, timetable guidance and Blue Line project details were checked against RTA public transport pages, RTA-linked timetable material and the RTA Dubai Rail Network map published December 2025.
